Tips for Booking Your Wedding Makeup Artist

    JonathanBy JonathanApril 25, 2024Updated:May 23, 2024No Comments6 Mins Read

You’re searching for the best makeup artist to do your makeup for your wedding! You’re looking for someone who can help you create your bridal look. They will make you feel and look the best you have ever felt. You’ll feel more confident as you walk down the aisle with your partner.

You just need to book a Makeup artist for your date, right? There are so many things to consider before choosing a makeup artist.

    Top tips for your search.

    1.   Do your research

Many brides are unaware that in Australia, anyone can call himself a makeup artist. No formal training is required, only a few makeup brushes and some mascara and you’re good to go! Scary, right?! You don’t require a license or formal training to become a makeup artist. Some people who claim to be ‘certified’ and ‘professionals’ may have only taken a 3-hour makeup course.

    2.   Find a makeup artist whose style you like

You will feel and look overdone if you choose a makeup artist who creates bold, glam looks. By the time you realize your artist’s style is not your own, you have probably invested a large amount of money. You may also have lost the opportunity to find another makeup artist. You want your fiancee to recognize you as you walk down the aisle, not wonder where they are or who you are.

A bride once said that the look she did not want was like Barbie. I thought it was a great description of how overdone makeup can turn your face into a doll.

    3.   Choose the level of service you want

You might not be concerned about knowing the makeup artist you will be working with for your wedding if you book with a business that filters out their bookings to different artists.

If you want to know exactly who will be at your wedding and see their Famous Quotes work, then working with me as a solo performer is the best choice. What you like depends on who you are. You may prefer a soloist if you want a personalized experience when you book with a supplier.

If you are booking a makeup artist, make sure they will be performing your makeup. Check before booking. Even artists who operate under their name may book you with a colleague.

    4.   Take into consideration hygiene and sanitation practices

COVID is a great tool to help you stay on top of your hygiene, especially when it comes time to apply makeup. It’s easy to think that a professional would take care of this, but after working in the beauty industry for a while, I have seen some pretty gross things.

Double-dipping, improper or no brush cleaning, blowing onto brushes, a kit that looks as if it hasn’t been cleaned since 2015, reusing disposables such as makeup sponges and mascara directly from the tube, and using your fingers and hands to apply makeup are all examples of poor hygiene practices.

You don’t need to worry about a style or a life-threatening staph after getting your makeup done.

    5.   You may want to reconsider your friend’s offer to do your wedding makeup

You’ll receive recommendations about the best suppliers when you are planning a wedding. Many family members and friends are willing to offer their services for free. Although it’s tempting to hire someone who doesn’t have the experience of working in this field every day, what will that mean for your wedding? There are so many things that can go wrong with makeup, and this is often apparent in your makeup test. Many brides call me to book a last-minute appointment because they booked through a friend or friend of a Friend, or went on a recommendation from a close friend.

    6.   Select a makeup artist who has a personality that matches yours

As a makeup designer, I am part mind reader and psychologist! I am pretty good at reading people and rooms, and I know how to fit in so that your day is relaxed and stress-free. You need to find a makeup artist who is easy to work with, not too intimidating, and will make you feel relaxed and at ease on your wedding day. The hair and makeup you choose will set the tone of your special day. They are the first people you’ll see, so make sure you like their personality and approach.

    7.   Take into consideration the products that they use

Check out the brands that Makeup Artists use. The majority will be happy to tell you. You want to find professional brands, and you should look at a range of them. It’s important to avoid hiring a makeup artist who only uses one brand. This can lead to a look or finish that is suitable for most, but not all. It’s also best to avoid using a lot of mineral or drugstore makeup, as they won’t last through a long wedding.

Consider this kit if you are interested in sustainable, eco-friendly, and cruelty-free practices. All of my kit contains pro-quality and industry-respected brands. It is also cruelty-free. To reduce my waste, I recycle and use disposables made from sustainable materials like bamboo.

    8. Booking your makeup artist based on price is a mistake

It’s not the same as buying a product, where you can shop around and get the exact item at a lower price. It’s impossible to compare apples and oranges when it comes time to book wedding services. The end result, service, personal touch, experience, etc. will all be different.

The cost of your wedding makeup depends on the makeup artist you choose, the service they provide, where you are getting married, and the demand for their services.

The cost of a wedding can be a big investment. Knowing what I do about the beauty industry and what it is like, finding the lowest price for makeup can be a costly endeavor.

Say you get a makeup quote and there is a $250 difference between it and another. Divide this amount by the number of months left before your wedding (perhaps 12-18) and you will only need to add $21 to $14 per month to save up for an event that you can never forget and photos that you’ll cherish forever. The math speaks volumes.
